Dimitri Scarlato is a conductor/composer with a broad experience in classical, operatic and contemporary classic music, at both educational and professional level.
He studied conducting at the prestigious Conservatorio di Musica S.Cecilia in Rome, and has refined his skills by attending several masterclasses in Russia, Germany, Italy and Bulgaria studying with Milen Nachev, Alexander Polyanichko and Riccardo Frizza, focussing on the Ilya Musin conducting technique. He conducted concerts, workshops and recording sessions in Italy, Russia, Bulgaria, Malta, Czech Republic, Slovakia and UK.
His music has been performed in several venues across Europe such as the Barbican Hall and the Cadogan Hall in London and Gran Teatro La Fenice in Venice. The Accademia Filarmonica Romana premiered his opera Fadwa in May 2013 at the Teatro Olimpico in Rome.
His activity spans from contemporary classic music, opera, theatre, films and pop music. In 2011 Dimitri has been selected at VOX3 - Composing for Voice at the Royal Opera House of London, and at the Berlinale Talent Campus 2011 as a film composer.
In 2014 he was the music/conducting coach for Sir Michael Caine on the film Youth, by the Oscar winning director Paolo Sorrentino.
In 2015 he won the 3rd Composition Competition at the International Spring Orchestra Festival, with his piece Caduceo, written for two pianos and had his opera The Christmas Truce premiered at the Teatro Palladium in Rome.
His conducting activity is focussed on premiering new works, such as the final recital of the composition students in Rome at the Conservatorio S.Cecilia (2018/2019). In 2017 he coordinated and conducted the production of three new operatic works in Bulgaria, and in 2018 he conducted the closing concert at the International Spring Festival in Malta, with a programme based on Bartok, Lutoslawski and two premieres. He also conducted the 2022 closing concert of the same festival, with a programme involving Xenakis, Gubaidulina, Mahler and two prermieres.
In 2019 he has been a member of the jury of the 1st Makris Conducting Competition due to his activity and knowledge as composer, as it was mandatory for the competitors to conduct works by Andreas Makris, a Greek-American composer of the 20th century who recently passed away.

· 1998 to current date. Composer and Conductor of original compositions, from small ensembles to large scale orchestra works, operas, performed in several venues such as Barbican Hall (London) and Teatro la Fenice (Venice).
· 2022. Composer and Conductor of the closing concert at the 16th International Spring Orchestra Festival, Malta.
· 2021. Composer of A le Superne Rote, commissioned by the Hungarian National Choir for the Dante anniversary, premiered at the Mupa Festival, Budapest.
· 2020. Winner of the 2nd prize at Opera Harmony, digital opera festival, with the piece A Life Reset.
· 2018. Composer and Conductor of the closing concert at the 12th International Spring Orchestra Festival, Malta.
· 2017. Conductor for the premiere of The Auction by K. Fiorini and Il Muro by E. Travaglione, winning operas of the Stara Zagora Opera Competition. (Bulgaria).
· 2015. Composer and Conductor of “Rhapsody of Memories”, for flute and orchestra. Barbican Hall, London.
· 2015. Winner of the 3rd Composition Competition at the International Spring Orchestra Festival, with the piece for 2 pianos “Caduceo”.
