Chenyu Wang

Born in Shanghai in 1994 and Florentine by adoption, she elegantly combines the rigorous discipline of Eastern musical training with the passionate tradition of Italian bel canto.

Her musical education is deeply rooted: she began studying the piano at the age of six, developing early on a strong structural understanding of music that led her to stand out, for over a decade, as a leading solo voice in prestigious choral ensembles. After successfully passing the entrance examination to East China Normal University with outstanding results, she completed her first cycle of studies with a degree in Art Education, specialising in vocal performance with distinction.

Drawn to Italy, the cradle of opera, she moved to Florence, where she refined her technical skills under the authoritative guidance of the internationally renowned bel canto and interpretative gesture specialist, Maestro Claudia Pop. Her Italian academic journey is marked by a series of elite achievements: from advanced training in Vocal Chamber Music at the “Luigi Cherubini” Conservatoire in Florence (under Maestro Leonardo De Lisi), to the completion of the Advanced Two-Year Diploma in Singing at the “Luigi Boccherini” Conservatoire in Lucca. There, Wang Chenyu captivated the examination panel, graduating with top marks and crowning her studies with a diploma concert praised for its technical perfection and expressive depth.

Her talent has been recognised through major international competitions. As early as 2015, she distinguished herself at the Hong Kong International Music Festival, winning first prize in the Shanghai selections and the prestigious second prize in the overall final. More recently, in 2024, her artistic maturity led her to become a finalist in the Second Giancarlo Mastromei International Competition, confirming a steady and unstoppable vocal development.

Her dedication to artistic refinement has brought her into contact with some of the most prominent figures in the international operatic world. She has taken part in high-level masterclasses with celebrated sopranos such as Maria Agresta, Maria Niculescu and Serena Farnocchia, and has further explored the repertoire under the guidance of distinguished masters including Bruno De Simone and Andrea Severi.

From 2013 to the present day, Wang Chenyu has performed extensively on stages in China and Italy, maintaining a tireless and widely acclaimed concert activity. From Shanghai to Florence, via Lucca, Camaiore and Chianciano Terme, her performances are celebrated for their ability to blend a solid lyric spinto soprano register with a rare dramatic intensity. In addition to being a refined interpreter, she is also an active cultural promoter, organising events that build an artistic bridge between East and West through the universal power of opera.
