Biography
The Brazilian soprano Catia Neris, born in Belo Horizonte (Minas Gerais), graduated in Opera Singing from the Federal University of Minas Gerais – UFMG – in Brazil in 2013. She is currently nearing completion of the Level II Academic Course in Musical Disciplines – Theatre Singing Programme at the Francesco Venezze State Conservatory of Music in Rovigo. She has attended several masterclasses, including those given by Christian Ricci, Maurizio Franceschetti and Marina De Liso.
Her repertoire includes works by leading composers in the fields of opera and sacred music, such as Mozart, Purcell, Gluck, Bellini, Donizetti, Verdi, Schubert, Gounod, Fauré, Mascagni, Puccini, Leoncavallo, Catalani, Sonnenfeld and Heitor Villa-Lobos. In January 2026, she took part in the opera gala 'Le piccole scene – Arie Immortali', conceived and produced by the soprano together with Riccardo Ghirardello, at the Teatro San Benedetto Circolo Cinema in Grignano Polesine (Rovigo), where she performed pieces by Verdi, Puccini, Catalani and Mascagni. In September 2025, she took part in the Musica Civica di Treviso Harmonia Opera Gala at the Museo di Santa Caterina in Treviso, performing pieces by Mozart and Verdi. In April 2023, she took part in the ‘Concerto Nuove Voci della Lirica’ with the participants of the Valsanzibio Opera Singing Masterclass (Province of Padua), at the Ca’ la Ghironda Museum – Sala dei Maestri, in Bologna, where she performed pieces by Mozart, Leoncavallo, Catalani and Verdi. In January 2023, she took part in the ‘Concerto dell’Epifania’ at the Church of San Giovanni Battista in Jesolo, where she sang Gounod’s Ave Maria. In December 2022, she took part in the operatic theatre production ‘D’amor sull’ali rosee’ at Palazzo Zacco Armeni in Padua, where she sang pieces by Verdi and Catalani. In October 2022, she took part in the concert ‘Musica Perseguitata: musica e musicisti tradotti agli estremi confini’ (‘Persecuted Music: Music and Musicians Pushed to the Extreme’) at the Museo Internazionale e Biblioteca della Musica in Bologna, as part of the Attualità della Memoria festival, with Prof. Raffaele Deluca and the Rovigo Conservatory ensemble (conducted by Giuseppe Fagnocchi). She performed pieces by Kurt Sonnenfeld and Ruggiero Leoncavallo. In May 2022, she took part in the opera-theatre performance ‘D’amor sull’ali rosee’, organised by the Circolo della Lirica di Padova, at the Ridotto of the Teatro Comunale in Ferrara, where she sang pieces by Mozart. In September 2020, she took part in the opera concert ‘I Concerti della Rinascita, I luoghi della Bellezza’, with the Veneto Regional Philharmonic Orchestra, at the Arena Martinelli-Pertile in Montagnana, where she performed pieces by Mozart. In December 2019, she took part in the concert 'Viverà La Musica Insieme' at the Chiesa della Beata Vergine della Salute in Este, performing pieces by Mozart and Verdi. In November 2019, she took part in the opera gala ‘Novento all’Opera 2019’, organised by the E. Segattini Cultural and Musical Society, at the Teatro San Mauro in Noventa di Piave. She sang the role of Suor Angelica in Giacomo Puccini’s opera of the same name. In September 2019, she took part in the 'Opera in Villa' concert in Padua, on the occasion of the International Day of Peace. She performed pieces by Verdi and Puccini. In August 2019, she took part in the 'Concerto Lirico in Villa' Opera Gala at Villa Piovene Porto Godi in Vicenza, where she performed pieces by Giuseppe Verdi and Giacomo Puccini. In July 2018, she took part in the final concert of the ‘Fan Opera Summer School 2018’, with the Orchestra Senza Spine, at the Teatro della Fortuna in Fano, where she performed works by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. In June 2018, she took part in the ‘Concerto per la Libertà e la Pace’ (Concert for Freedom and Peace), marking the 94th anniversary of the martyrdom of Giacomo Matteotti, at the Auditorium of the Francesco Venezze Conservatory in Rovigo, where she performed pieces by Verdi and Leoncavallo. In June 2018, she took part in the ‘Società “Dante Alighieri” Concert’ at the Auditorium of the Francesco Venezze Conservatory in Rovigo, where she performed pieces by Verdi and Leoncavallo. From 2013 to 2017, the soprano collaborated with the Coral Lirico de Minas Gerais (CLMG), one of Brazil's leading permanent professional symphony choirs, specialising in operatic, symphonic-choral and concert repertoire, managed by the Fundação Clóvis Salgado (FCS), based at the Palácio das Artes in Belo Horizonte, and which frequently collaborates with the Orquestra Sinfônica de Minas Gerais.
